Fezolinetant (Veoza) – Non-hormonal hot flush treatment
The long awaited game changing medication for hot flushes is now available in UK
Veoza is not a hormone treatment, so it is suitable for women for whom hormone replacement therapy is not safe , or who wish to avoid hormones.
I can see it being hugely useful for my cancer survivors, and also for women who wish to avoid hormones who have persistent hot flushes. The studies looked at women between 40 and 65, and we will need more evidence to guide us if we want to use it for older women.

Your first menopause consultation explained:
Your first menopause consultation will last around thirty minutes.
During this initial consultation, I will ask you to complete a symptom chart.
What costs are involved?
An initial consultation costs £200, which is payable at the time of the consultation.
Follow up consultations are £85 for 15 minutes or £145 for 30 minutes.
Does the age when I had my first period affect when I will enter the menopause?
The age when a woman starts having her menstrual period does not relate to the age of menopause onset. So if you experienced your first period early, it does not mean your menopause will start early and vice versa. There is a family link, in that having an early menopause is more likely if your mum or other female relatives had their menopause early.
Does the menopause happen overnight?
No, you don’t suddenly wake up to find that the menopause has happened. It’s a gradual process. You may start to have symptoms while you are still having periods (this is known as the perimenopause)
When does the menopause start and end?
Most women reach menopause between the ages of 45 and 55, with the average in the UK being around the age of 51, although it can sometimes occur as earlier as your 30s and very rarely as a teenager.
What is the perimenopause?
This is simply the lead up to the menopause, which itself is defined as having had no menstrual periods for a year, but symptoms very often start some time before your periods finally stop.
